Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens has quickly grown into one of the largest and most significant botanical gardens in the United States. Its geographic diversity makes it a unique place to discover and experience nature and the biodiversity of Maine’s plant life.

Our core mission, to inspire meaningful connections among people, plants, and nature through horticulture, education, and research, drives our every decision.  Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is a destination where people experience the beauty of nature through wild and cultivated   gardens and carefully curated exhibits. Each year, more and more people discover the life-enhancing properties of this very special place.   

The Gardens places a high value on environmental awareness and educating visitors of all ages about the importance of conservation and sustainability. We share responsibility for the earth, and that starts with appreciating and understanding our connection to the natural world. Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens plays a critical role in connecting all of us, especially children, to the beauty, complexity, and fragility of our environment.

It is also part of our mission to continue to advance the field of plant knowledge. Through ongoing research here at the Gardens, we are discovering how climate change is affecting our natural habitat, studying and documenting Maine’s native species and the geographical spread of plant species northward, and developing plants suited for our environment that can weather changes in temperature and other human and environmental influences.
